Its first perfume, launched in 1983 and now called Amouage Gold, was created by Guy Robert, who also worked for Hermès and Dior. From 2006, David Crickmore and Christopher Chong renewed the brand, working with leading perfumers in Paris, Grasse, Geneva and New York. This luxury niche house sources rare ingredients worldwide; fragrance concentrates are made in France and blended in Oman. Its creations use more than 120 natural, rare materials, notably silver frankincense, whose trees Omani legends describe as guarded by winged snakes. The brand is described as surpassing houses with centuries of history within a few decades. Its bottles are generally simple and traditional: women's designs evoke the Palace Mosque in Muscat, while men's designs resemble the traditional Omani khanjar dagger.
